Colour Correction is all about changing the colour values in you image to get them as close to the real thing as possible. If the while balance for the image was wrong when you shot or you didn’t have a grey card for the shoot, you will need to correct the colour of the images, especially if you don’t shoot on auto white balance.

3 different examples of colour casts being a little out of wack.

The best way for editing and controlling colour cast is the curves adjustment layer. this allows you to change each of the colour channels individually, meaning you can add or remove each of the colours with ease.

This colour wheel will help to work out what colour to add or remove with certain overcasts. Always add blue, red or green when correcting yellow, cyan or magenta tones. and remove them when they are too heavy.

This was the red example. Removing red left the image a little cold so i removed some of the blue also leaving the image with a very slight yellow overcast but i don’t think that its noticeable or distracting, and gives the grass a little more character

This was the green example, the easiest and fastest to fix, however the rock face at the back has a slight red tint to it, but can be written off as the type of rock that it is, unless you know the original image. there seems to be less contrast in this image or its brighter than the first one. i haven’t changed anything else which means that this can only be a result of taking different colours out of an image. 

This was the blue example, while it seemed easy to fix, the longer that i look at it the more it doesn’t look normal, i’m not sure whats missing or if i haven’t taken enough/taken too much blue out.

Correcting colour sounds easy but if your screen isn’t calibrated correctly, the image will looks a little different across different monitors. on the other hand, different people’s eyes pick up colour tones differently, which means you’ll never get an image spot on without a grey card. Also its pretty difficult to get the colours correct without spending a long time working on it. Practice makes perfect, and I need a lot more practice.
